Hamdan approves new Dubai quality of life projects

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved a series of new development projects and initiatives from Dubai Municipality.

These efforts aim to upgrade urban facilities and services, enhancing the quality of life across the emirate.

The initiatives align with the goals of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and Dubai’s broader vision to become a leading global city for living, working, and visiting. The approved plans include a specialized falcon market, a lighting project for Dubai Creek, and an AI-powered park design challenge.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai continues to develop transformative urban projects. He noted that an extensive vision places people and their quality of life at the heart of these priorities, with innovation, sustainability, and advanced technology serving as key pillars for the city’s future.

“We believe that the cities best prepared for the future are those capable of creating resilient urban environments, integrated facilities, and enriching urban experiences that reflect identity, culture, and the aspirations of society,” he stated.

New Falcon Market to Celebrate Heritage

Among the approved plans is the Dubai Falcon Market.

The market’s innovative architectural design, inspired by a falcon’s wings, will include specialized retail outlets for falcons and related supplies, spaces for cultural events, and a fully integrated veterinary clinic. This facility will span approximately 50,000 square feet and carries an estimated cost of around AED50 million. It aims to strengthen Dubai’s standing as a global destination for culture, heritage, and innovation.

Dubai Creek Set for Enhanced Night-Time Experience

Another significant initiative is the Dubai Creek Lighting project. This plan seeks to establish an integrated visual and urban experience along an 8-kilometer stretch of Dubai Creek, enhancing its aesthetic and historical identity.

The project aims to improve the visitor and resident experience by transforming the creek into a new night-time destination. It will reintroduce Dubai Creek as one of the emirate’s most important cultural and historical landmarks.

An innovative lighting system will cover promenades, creek entrances, heritage markets, building façades, and waterfront walkways. This system is intended to create a lively, safe, and attractive urban environment after sunset, combining architectural, historical, and cultural beauty.

The project, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027, is part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to transform its waterfronts into integrated global destinations. These efforts support the tourism and cultural sectors, while also improving the urban experience across the emirate.

AI to Shape Future Park Designs

In a move to strengthen its global leadership in artificial intelligence for city development, Dubai has approved the First AI-Powered Park Design Challenge. This initiative is touted as the world’s first of its kind.

The challenge seeks to develop an innovative model for designing parks and public spaces using AI technologies throughout the planning and design phases. It will also utilize data analytics to better understand community needs and usage patterns of public spaces.

Targeting designers, urban specialists, university students, startups, and innovation leaders, the challenge aims to strengthen Dubai’s urban innovation ecosystem. It also hopes to attract creative ideas and develop future-focused design solutions that support sustainable cities.

This initiative also reflects Dubai’s approach to increasing community participation in public space design. It enables the public to contribute to design development through AI tools and interactive data analytics, reinforcing participatory design and positioning the community as a key partner in shaping the city’s future.

Collaborating with International Architects

Dubai Municipality’s Urban Planning and Design Lab continues to engage leading international architects in developing landmark projects. These collaborations reflect the emirate’s future vision while reinforcing its local identity through a contemporary global perspective.

As part of these efforts, the Municipality announced a collaboration with renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma for the Reservoir Park project.

This marks Kuma’s first park project in Dubai.

The design vision for the park draws inspiration from the harmonious relationship between nature, people, and architecture. It blends architectural innovation with local cultural identity, reflecting Dubai’s unique urban heritage through a contemporary global design language.

According to Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, these projects reflect Dubai’s vision for developing a more sustainable and higher-quality city. He stated that they introduce innovative urban models that integrate advanced infrastructure, cultural identity, and future technologies, contributing to community well-being.

The projects support the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. They aim to improve quality of life and reinforce Dubai’s position as a global leader in innovation, sustainability, and integrated urban living.
